Ryan's story

Ryan was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma N-MYC amplified in July 2008. He was out of treatment for just over a year when in November 2010 our lives were again turned upside down when we discovered the disease had returned in his bones and bone marrow. After a year of treatment re-staging scans in November 2011 showed that he had again achieved remission.

However just 3 months later, in February 2012, end of treatment scans gave us the devastating news that the disease has returned, this time with a tumour near his spine. In March Ryan started 4 weeks of radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy. Re-staging scans in May and August showed no evidence of disease. On the 4th September 2012 Ryan received treatment in Tubingen for a haplo-identical stem cell transplant. He is a happy, active boy who is now enjoying life to the full.

Get involved

As Ryan is no longer requiring treatment, and we reached our goal of covering the cost of Ryan's treatment, we are no longer fundraising and have been enjoying normal family time together.  However, if you would like to get involved there are lots of ways in which you can help us raise money for children like Ryan, simply get in touch with the fundraising team at the NCCA UK.  Their details are at the bottom of this page.

We opted to fundraise with the charity Solving Kid's Cancer (registered charity number 1135601).  Formerly NCCA UK. The charity raises money to benefit children suffering from neuroblastoma, to fund research into neuroblastoma, and to achieve other charitable purposes which seek to assist children suffering from neuroblastoma.  With this disease you need to act quickly, you need to raise money quickly and the thought of trying to do this alone was overwhelming.  The charity has been a great support to us in helping us get our fund raising pages up and running.  We also have the reassurance of knowing that if for any reason we are unable to use the money raised for Ryan, it will be used to help other children with this monstrous disease to get the treatment that they need.

The charity welcomes general donations and donations to designated appeals.
